Statement on Hearing in New York

Today, the Attorney General again made it clear that he remains determined to comb through the personal information of thousands of regular New Yorkers just trying to make ends meet. We were proud to stand up for our hosts who share their homes and against this over-broad, government sponsored fishing expedition.  Cities like Paris, Amsterdam and Hamburg are embracing the sharing economy and New York shouldn’t be stuck playing catch-up.

Airbnb is a life safer LITERALLY! Hosting has allowed me to pay my bills after loosing my job with the City (City OF NY). Hosting not only allows me to pay bills, it’s also a nice way to meet people around the world and get a lesson on a city I knew nothing about (being born and raised in Brooklyn). Lesson No. 1: There is surfing at Rockaway Beach – who knew? In addition to meeting and greeting and funds, it also allows me to use the space for family and friends and be aware of repairs in between guest. If airbnb no longer exist, it will not be good for me and also for the tremendous amount of people who enjoy being guest and living among the natives throughout the boroughs of NYC. Our guest are saving money and getting a bang for the buck booking with airbnb host!
